The South Asia Centre for Peace And Peoples Empowerment (SACPPE) organized an awareness event at Mega Fruit Mandi in south Kashmir’s Shopian, demonstrating a strong sense of unity and determination. Prominent figures from the transport industry, including Farooq Ahmad Bhat, Suhail Zam Zam Qadri, and Abrar Ahmad Kripak, joined forces to address the alarming increase in substance abuse.
Mriganka Dadwal, the founder of the Street Level Awareness Program (SLAP), an NGO based in Delhi, emphasized the detrimental effects of drug consumption not only on individuals but also on their families and society as a whole. Recognizing the influential role of drivers, she urged them to reject involvement in drug peddling and actively contribute to the nation’s improvement. Mriganka highlighted the global concern regarding drug use and road safety, citing studies that show the risks associated with driving under the influence of drugs, such as road traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities.
Farooq Bhat, representing public transport drivers, echoed the profound impact of drug consumption on individuals, families, and society. Acknowledging their unique power, he called upon fellow drivers to reject drug peddling and contribute to the nation’s betterment.
Suhail Qadri emphasized the urgent issue of substance abuse among young people, emphasizing its wide-ranging consequences for individuals and society. He passionately appealed to responsible citizens to take proactive measures, including awareness campaigns, education, and support systems, to empower youth to make healthier choices and build a brighter future.
ARTO Abrar Kripak introduced an innovative approach to combat substance abuse by harnessing the influence of those involved in the transport industry. Recognizing their strength, dedication, and societal position, Kripak proposed enlisting transport professionals as ambassadors against substance abuse.
